Ticket sales cover only a portion of DTMC’s operating expenses; for the rest, we have our dedicated ‘GEMs’ to thank.
DTMC’s ‘GEMs’ is a group of people who understand that to make great choral music, you need more than great singers, sets and costumes. In addition, you must have a warm (or cool) comfy space, phone lines to take reservations, electricity to power the stage lights and so much more! In short, the fixed costs and overhead that need to be paid all year long.

About GALA Choruses, Inc. . . . Founded in 1982 by fourteen choruses, GALA Choruses has become the leading international association of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and allied choruses. The mission of GALA Choruses is inspiring and strengthening member choruses to change their worlds through song. By fostering the artistic and organizational development of member choruses through a wide variety of programs and services, GALA Choruses produces choral festivals, educational conferences and several publications. We engage in advocacy; provide grants for the commissioning of new choral works; facilitate networking within the Association; and serve as a resource center for choruses and individual Associates from around the world. Since its inception GALA Choruses has produced six international festivals, provided more than $40,000 in matching grants for commissioned works and has provided more than 25 conferences and vocal training workshops. In July 2004, Detroit Together Men's Chorus attended the GALA Choruses International Festival VIIe in Montreal, Quebec. The Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses sponsors this extraordinary choral festival in a different location once every four years, the July 2008 event was held in Miami, Florida. This event is a week full of song, love and laughter from choruses throughout the world. The festival hosts more than 5000 chorus members representing over 150 choruses, along with thousands of music lovers! What a tremendous experience it was to meet people from all over the world whose sole purpose was to celebrate music!! To be involved in any GALA Choruses event you merely need to become a choral singer or support member of DTMC . . . that in itself is a wonderful experience!
